These files contain original, photocopied and transcribed letters from/to/concerning Lancaster’s work in the United Kingdom and the American Continents. They also include: extracts from reports and articles; handbills, petitions, appeals (mostly photocopied); engravings and photographs of Lancaster and his descendants.

Some of the material is catalogued under the name of the researcher who collected it, i.e. McGarry, Salmon, Vaughan, Dickson, and includes lists of material in other collections which they used.

FILES 005-006: EARLY MINUTE BOOKS AND REGISTERS

These files contain the original books which escaped the fire of World War II. The Minute Books record the activities of the Trustees of the Royal Lancasterian Institution up to the end of 1813 and then of the British and Foreign School Society. There are references to financial matters, including the difficulties with Lancaster, to the management of the Lancasterian Institution, to the establishment and progress of the other British schools and to the lads trained by or working for Lancaster.
